Steps to Upgrade Key Trustee Servers on Non BDA Edge Nodes Removed from a BDA Cluster Before BDA 4.5 and Higher Cluster Upgrade After BDA Upgrade Completes (Doc ID 2379405.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 08, 2022

Applies to:

Big Data Appliance Integrated Software - Version 4.5.0 and later
Linux x86-64

Purpose

The strong recommendation is not to remove non-BDA edge nodes from the cluster if they host the Active/Passive Key Trustee Servers. If the edge nodes hosting the Key Trustee Servers are not removed from the cluster, the Key Trustee Servers will be upgraded during the Mammoth upgrade.  If the edge nodes hosting the Key Trustee Servers are removed from the cluster during upgrade, upgrade the Key Trustee Servers post upgrade as described here.

Scope

The steps in this document upgrade the Active and Passive Key Trustee Servers (KTS) managed by Cloudera Manager hosted on non-BDA edge nodes which were removed from the BDA cluster before BDA V4.5 and higher upgrade.  If the Key Trustee Servers were removed before the BDA 4.5 and higher upgrade they will need to be upgraded once the BDA cluster upgrade completes.  The example here is of a BDA 4.11/CDH 5.13.1 cluster where KMS resides on the BDA but the Key Trustee Servers reside on non BDA edge nodes.
