Last updated on AUGUST 01, 2024

Applies to:

HP OpenVMS Alpha

Purpose

On OpenVMS, from Oracle Server Release 9.2, the Oracle Universal Installer (OUI) has to be used to install the server code.

During the installation process, Oracle creates a directory structure to hold information on products that have been installed.

This area is known as the oraInventory

It is subsequently used and updated by the OUI when applying patchsets.

On other platforms, the oraInventory also reflects information on one-off patches that have been applied.

However, on OpenVMS we do not use Opatch to install additional one-off patches.

Given that OpenVMS customer rarely have to worry about the oraInventory area, it is easy to lose track of its location.

This document explains where this information can be found.

Scope

The information held here will be of interest to any OpenVMS DBA who is applying (or planning to apply) a patchset against Oracle release 9.2.X
