ODP.Net Throws Exception "Arithmetic Operation Resulted in an Overflow" (Doc ID 255476.1)

Symptoms

While subtracting two dates, the Oracle Data Provider for .NET (ODP.NET) receives the following error:

Unhandled Exception: System.OverflowException: Arithmetic operation resulted
in an overflow.
at Oracle.DataAccess.Types.DecimalConv.GetDecimal(IntPtr numCtx)
at Oracle.DataAccess.Client.OracleDataReader.GetDecimal(Int32 i)
