Purpose
Perform the steps in the Details section of this document to manually update the microcode_ctl package installed on Exadata X7-2 or X8-2 database servers to one of the following versions:
- microcode_ctl-1.17-33.17.0.3.el6_10.x86_64.rpm (for systems running Oracle Linux 6)
- microcode_ctl-2.1-53.2.0.1.el7_7.x86_64.rpm (for systems running Oracle Linux 7)
Exadata versions 18.1.22, 19.2.8, and 19.3.2 contain the updated microcode_ctl package. The recommended approach to obtain the updated microcode_ctl package is to perform a standard Exadata software update to one of these Exadata versions (or higher). The alternate approach is to manually update the microcode_ctl package, as described in this document.
The steps are valid for running on X7-2 or X8-2 database servers for the following Exadata versions:
- 18.1.0 through 18.1.21
- 19.1.0 through 19.2.7
- 19.3.0 through 19.3.1
CPU microcode update requires database server reboot. The updated microcode_ctl package may be applied to one database server at a time in a rolling manner.
In VM configurations do not install the updated microcode_ctl package in domUs or kvmguests.
