Grid Infrastructure on Exadata / Oracle Linux 7 Transitional Support (Doc ID 2700151.1)

Last updated on AUGUST 18, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Exadata Storage Server Software - Version and later
Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version to [Release 11.2]
Linux x86-64

This document describes transitional support for Grid Infrastructure on Exadata systems running Oracle Linux 7, such as Exadata System Software 20.x and 19.x.

Previously a system running Grid Infrastructure required Exadata running Oracle Linux 6 (Exadata versions 12.x or 18.x).  Grid Infrastructure upgrade from to Long Term Support Release 19 required a three-step upgrade path:

  1. Upgrade Grid Infrastructure from to, or, or 18.
  2. Upgrade Exadata System Software to a release running Oracle Linux 7 (e.g. 20.x or 19.x).
  3. Upgrade Grid Infrastructure to 19.

Transitional support of Grid Infrastructure on Exadata systems running Oracle Linux 7 is added to enable Grid Infrastructure upgrade from directly to Long Term Support Release 19, thus eliminating the requirement to first upgrade Grid Infrastructure to an intermediate release.
