Requirement for Upgrading Database with Database Vault
This requirement is applicable if Database Vault is enabled in the database to be upgraded and the database is being upgraded to 21.3 or later Release Updates, 19.12.0 or later Release Updates, or any lower releases patched with Internal Bug 32312131.
Before starting the database upgrade, you should do the following in the lower version home.
- If the database to be upgraded is a CDB, then log on as the common Database Vault (DV) administrator (in the CDB$ROOT) and either (1) grant the DV_PATCH_ADMIN role to SYS with "container=all" clause in CDB$ROOT or (2) disable DV in every container (disable in PDBs first and in CDB$ROOT last) via "DBMS_MACADM.DISABLE_DV".
- If the database to be upgraded is to be plugged into a target CDB (either a non-CDB or PDB), then disable DV in the non-CDB or PDB before describe or unplug.
- If the database to be upgraded is a non-CDB, then log on as DV administrator and either grant the DV_PATCH_ADMIN role to SYS or disable DV. If the database version is lower than 12.1, then disable DV by following the instructions in https://docs.oracle.com/cd/E11882_01/server.112/e23090/dvdisabl.htm#DVADM012.
After the upgrade is complete, perform the following steps in the upgraded home.
- if the DV_PATCH_ADMIN role was granted to SYS before upgrade in a CDB, then log on as the common DV administrator and revoke the role from SYS commonly in CDB$ROOT. If the DV_PATCH_ADMIN role was granted to SYS in a non-CDB, then revoke the role from SYS as the DV administrator.
- If DV was disabled before the upgrade, then log on as DV administrator, execute "DVSYS.DBMS_MACADM.ENABLE_DV", and restart the database for the enable to take effect. In case of a CDB, enable DV in CDB$ROOT and then restart CDB$ROOT first, and continue the same process (enable and restart) in the PDBs. In case of a non-CDB or PDB, enable DV and restart the non-CDB or PDB.
