Misleading "ORA-00902: Invalid Datatype" Seen when Using Specific Index Hint (Doc ID 2926684.1)

Last updated on JULY 20, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 19.16.0.0.0 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Attempting to use a specific Index hint in a select query is returning misleading "ORA-00902: invalid datatype" error:

-  Index name specified in the hint is valid and exists for the specified table.
-  The same index was working fine earlier but is suddenly failing with above error.
-  If another index created on the same table is specified in the hint, then the query runs successfully without any error. The hint syntax is specified correctly.
-  Both the table and index were partitioned.
