Database Datafiles Are Getting Rename, Deleted in 19c. But 12c DB Datafiles Are Not Getting Rename, Deleted (Doc ID 3001808.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 01, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 12.1.0.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

In Windows 19c DB datafiles are getting rename, deleted but in 12c DB datafiles are not getting rename, deleted

Customers may facing security challenges with 19c database where datafiles are manually getting rename or deleted.

But with 12c DB datafiles are not getting rename or deleted and when we tried to delete or rename manually in 12c machine we are getting popup message like “The action can’t be completed because the file is open in OracleServiceXSTORE" . The same is not observed with 19c DB datafile.

Changes

This seems to be because of Read/Write snapshot feature that was added in Oracle DB 19c.
Linux Database allows rename/delete of datafiles and hence R/W snapshot works fine when feature was implemented.
On Windows as file was not opened with deleted share mode so during R/W snapshot project when we doing rename of file then it was failing.
