NameNode Fails to Start with "java.io.IOException: Premature EOF from inputStream" on a BDA Cluster (Doc ID 3014157.1)

Symptoms

A NameNode fails to start on a BDA cluster.  The NameNode log at /var/log/hadoop-hdfs/hadoop-cmf-hdfs-NAMENODE-<HOSTNAME>.<DOMAIN>.log.out shows an error stack like:
