TNS-01106: Lsnrctl Utility Fails to Start a Second Listener (Doc ID 352143.1)

Last updated on JANUARY 22, 2020

Applies to:

Oracle Net Services - Version 10.2.0.1 to 12.1.0.2 [Release 10.2 to 12.1]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Lsnrctl start fails with the following error:

TNS-01106: Listener using listener name LISTENER has already been started.

The listener.ora file might be configured with a duplicate IPC KEY or a duplicate TCP port number.
If the TCP Address configuration shows a HOST field containing a hostname, versus an IP address,
this error would still be expected.

For example:

Attempting to start both listeners configured like this would yield a TNS-01106 TNS:  Listener using listener name % has already been started.

Changes

This is likely a new installation OR the addition of a new listener on this server.
