ORA-12012 / ORA-23324: error ORA-02055: distributed update operation failed; rollback required (Doc ID 368946.1)

Last updated on JULY 05, 2017

Applies to:

Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 9.2.0.7 to 11.2.0.2.0 [Release 9.2 to 11.2]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

Checked for relevance on 19-Jan-2010

Advanced Replication is repeatedly failing to push transactions to remote destination

parallelism => 0 is being used.

The full error sequence is :

ORA-23324: error ORA-02055: distributed update operation failed; rollback required
ORA-02068: following severe error from <dblink>
ORA-03113: end-of-file on communication channel, while creating deferror entry at "database" with error -2055

Changes

Primary key on a large table used by replication was dropped but not recreated.

Transactions being applied at the remote database are therefore using Full Table Scan
access path. i.e. the nature of this issue is that the Remote side table access path has
dramatically changed.

Whilst this is  potentially an uncommon situation , it is worth ruling out this particular set of
circumstances : check that relevant primary keys / indexes are present on remote replication
related tables.
