"No User found matching the criteria" and "EQG-31212" errors while trying to crawl NTFS source (Doc ID 727999.1)

Symptoms

When crawling an NTFS source, and after the crawler schedule completed, the following message is posted in the Error Log popup window of  the Schedules page: (Home----> Schedules ---> Synchronization Schedule Status)

***Crawler raised the following error for data source "Legal_Cralwer2" at time Jul 01, 2008 11:41:23***
oracle.security.idm.ObjectNotFoundException: No User found matching the criteria   
at oracle.security.idm.providers.stdldap.util.DirectSearchResponse.initSearch(DirectSearchResponse.java:152) at oracle.security.idm.providers.stdldap.util.VLVSearchResponse.<init>(VLVSearchResponse.java:60)
at oracle.security.idm.providers.stdldap.util.LDAPRealm.searchUsers(LDAPRealm.java:427) at oracle.security.idm.providers.stdldap.LDIdentityStore.search(LDIdentityStore.java:179)
at oracle.search.plugin.



And the crawler log file shows similar entries like:

EQG-31212: Principal  "(group)" ... cannot be validated
