RDBPROD: How to RMU/UNLOAD Oracle Rdb Floating Point Data for Oracle 10g External Table (Doc ID 729223.1)

Last updated on APRIL 18, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.2 and later
HP OpenVMS Alpha
HP OpenVMS VAX
HP OpenVMS Itanium

Goal

There is an Oracle Rdb database running on OpenVMS. Using the Oracle 10g "external table" feature to allow querying of Oracle Rdb FLOAT and DOUBLE PRECISION columns is requested. RMU/UNLOAD will be used to produce a binary file to become the Oracle 10g external table.

How can the Oracle Rdb FLOAT and DOUBLE PRECISION columns (represented internally as VAX F_FLOAT and G_FLOAT) be converted to Oracle 10g BINARY_FLOAT and BINARY_DOUBLE (represented internally as IEEE S_FLOAT and T_FLOAT)?
