FIle Corruption Issues running opatch on z/OS (Doc ID 751606.1)

Symptoms

attempting to apply a patch with opatch, after a HFS-ZFS conversion was done the following error is received:

make: ins_rdbms.mk: line 1: Error -- FSUM9392 file is binary

Other errors may be found in the apply log:

XML-20108 for each invocation of java i.e.:
