Purpose

The purpose of this note is to provide an example of how to use Oracle RDBMS Directory objects and hp OpenVMS search list logicals, with the utl_file package provided by Oracle on the hp OpenVMS platform.

A directory object specifies an alias for a directory on the server file system where external binary file LOBs (BFILEs) and external table data are located. In this note, the server file system is hp OpenVMS.

A search list logical is an OpenVMS logical with multiple values.

Scope

This note is for Oracle employees and customers needing more information on how to use Oracle RDBMS directory objects with the utl_file package on the hp OpenVMS platform.
