Symptoms

-- Problem Statement:
Backup-based duplicate to point in time after added datafile, but before its full/level0 backup failed with the following error:
    RMAN-6023: no backup or copy of datafile x found to restore

-- Steps To Reproduce:
Datafile 20 was added at 05-jan-2009 09:26:22
Level 0 backup completed 05-JAN-2009 15:32:43
Duplicate to 05-JAN-2009 15:18:29

 

Another symptom of the problem is that the restore and recovery phase appears to have completed, but the duplicate process itself eventually failed with ORA-01119. Upon close inspection of the duplicate dialogue we can see that a datafiles appears to be OFFLINE:

From the above, datafile 37 is the newly added datafile that has no backups
