Getting Trace Files With "Short stack dump: unable to dump stack due to error 72". (Doc ID 790393.1)

Symptoms

When doing a startup or shutdown, you might see the following in the alert log :

Wed Mar 11 05:18:14 2009
Process OS id : 974992 alive after kill
Errors in file /.../xxxx_ora_721366.trc
Wed Mar 11 05:18:15 2009
Process OS id : 1188106 alive after kill
Errors in file ..../udump/xxxxx_ora_721366.trc
Wed Mar 11 05:18:17 2009
ALTER DATABASE CLOSE NORMAL

And the trace files will contain the following message :

Process Group: DEFAULT, pseudo proc: 700000057b078f0
O/S info: user: user1, term: UNKNOWN, ospid: 840160
OSD pid info: Unix process pid: 840160, image: xxxx@yyyy
Short stack dump: unable to dump stack due to error 72
