Database Instance Crashes If ASM Failgroup Is Overwritten By /dev/zero (Doc ID 848147.1)

Symptoms

In order to test a failgroup failure in a normal or high redundancy diskgroup, one or more disks in the same failgroup are overwritten with dd by copying /dev/zero into ASM disk.

 

# dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdd1 count=10000 bs=1048576

There is database transactions running while dd is being performed.

Database processes fails with ORA-1578, ORA-8103 type of errors. Database instance crashes.
