Symptoms

The database files added on database server using sql*plus (bequeath connection) has different group permissions than the files created remotely using Oracle EM Grid Control or with some other remote tool.
For example

$ ls -l test.dbf users01.dbf
- rw-rw---- 1 oracle oinstall 10493952 Oct 19 10:43 test.dbf
- rw-r----- 1 oracle oinstall 104865792 Oct 19 10:32 users01.dbf

where the test.dbf file was added remotely with OEM Grid Control and the file users01.dbf was added locally using sql*plus.

This applies if the file added was located under ORACLE_HOME or on another directory structure/file system.
