Purpose

This document provides information on Oracle Release 10gR2 and Java version compatibility for OpenVMS platforms.

Scope

Oracle release 10gR2 shipped with Java version 1.4 embedded in the install kit. During install, Java 1.4 is installed in the oracle_home. During normal activities, Oracle uses the Java 1.4 from the oracle_home.  Since Oracle 10gR2 was released, new Java versions have been released (e.g 1.5 and above) by the Java vendors.

There are situations where third party products rely on the use of a more recent Java version than Oracle 10gR2 establishes in the user environment.

This document discusses how to manage such environments such that the third party application can be used.
