Last updated on MARCH 03, 2024

Applies to:

Oracle Rdb Server on OpenVMS - Version 7.0 and later
HP OpenVMS Itanium
HP OpenVMS VAX
HP OpenVMS Alpha

Purpose

Oracle Rdb uses detached server processes to perform After Image Journaling database functions. The purpose of this article is to explain how to optionally enable logging features for the AIJ detached processes (ABS, ALS, and AIJ) to aid in troubleshooting and analysis. These logicals were introduced in Oracle Rdb V7. Oracle recommends that these logicals remain permanently defined as /SYSTEM logicals. Alternately, beginning in Oracle Rdb 7.2.1, output or log file names for a number of database server processes are now also controlled by optional database attributes so that only the selected database is effected.
