Intermittent "java.sql.SQLRecoverableException: Closed Connection" for JDBC in OAF or Concurrent Processing (Doc ID 1281045.1)

Oracle Applications Framework - Version 12.1.1 to 12.1.3 [Release 12.1]
Microsoft Windows x64 (64-bit) - Version: 2008 R2

Symptoms

Running Application tier for E-Business Suite R12.1 on Windows 2003 or Windows 2008.

Intermittently OA Framework pages or GSM Service Components (e.g. Workflow Notification Mailer) fail with error reporting a closed JDBC connection is attempted to be used.

Examples of stacks (taken from OA Framework page):

 

The version of the JDBC drivers used is 11.1.0.7.0 or 11.2.0.1.0. Verify as follows:

  1. Setting profile FND: Diagnostics = Yes for USER
  2. Select the 'About this Page' at the left bottom of the page
  3. Verify the version in tab 'Technology Components'
