"Bad status value" Exception When Attempting to Plan an Order Release onto a Shipment

Symptoms
After upgrading to OTM 6.2, when attempting to build a shipment, the following error occurs.
ERROR

Bad status value: valueName=EQUIPMENT ASSIGNMENT_UNASSIGNED, typeName=EQUIPMENT ASSIGNMENT, objectType=interface glog.ejb.shipment.SEquipment, domain=PLAN java.lang.NullPointerException
STEPS
-----------------------
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Search for an Order Release which has not been planned.
2. Select order and go to Actions --> Create Buy Shipment --> Show Routing Options
3. Show Options.
4. Select any of the Itineraries shown.
5, Click Show Options
6. Select a valid option and click Ok.
7. Note the error received:
Bad status value: valueName=EQUIPMENT ASSIGNMENT_UNASSIGNED, typeName=EQUIPMENT ASSIGNMENT, objectType=interface glog.ejb.shipment.SEquipment, domain=PLAN
java.lang.NullPointerException
