Understanding Email Center to Email Server Integration in R12 (Help with Timeout/Connection Errors Sending/Replying to Email) (Doc ID 1468145.1)

Last updated on MAY 05, 2023

Applies to:

Oracle Email Center - Version 12.0.6 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Goal

In 11.5.10 the only Oracle supported email server, was the Oracle Email Server 5.2.

In R12, Oracle has provided the flexibility to go with any IMAP mail compliant server and there is no requirement to continue to use OES 5.2

Note:

Existing 11i EMC customers upgrading to Release 12 or greater, are highly encouraged to replace their OES install with an IMAP complaint mail server. Since OES 5.2 has been officially desupported since 2004.

Not having to use Oracle OES Server SMTP, has lead to certain problems with sending/replying to emails.

The problem can either be an STMP Error reported back to the screen, or a standard 404 or 500 Browser error, if there are problems connecting with the new Email Server.

Oracle advices that the SMTP Server used to send emails, is phyically loacated as near to the Email Center Application machine as is possible. This could even be using SMTP/Sendmail on the same machine.
