When Inactivating Items in Oracle Item Master / Inventory Management get error: This field can not be updated as there are Open Sales Order lines (Doc ID 1501868.1)

Symptoms

When attempting to inactivate an item in Oracle Item Master / Inventory Management, the following error is raised.

This error message can be raised in Master Items / Organization Items form (INVIDITM) or in the request log of below concurrent programs: (when debug mode is enabled)


This error message can be raised when just disabling a specific item attribute like the Transactable Flag as well.

-- Steps
The issue can be replicated at will per the below steps:

  1. Go to Master Items or Organization Items form, depending on your item attributes control settings:
    Inventory: (N) Items : Master Items
    Inventory: (N) Items : Organization Items
  2. Query an active item
  3. Set Item Status to Inactive (or to any other similar user defined item status) or just disable the Transactable Flag
