Symptoms
When attempting to inactivate an item in Oracle Item Master / Inventory Management, the following error is raised: "This field can not be updated as there are Open Sales Order lines."
This error message can be raised in Master Items / Organization Items form (INVIDITM) or in the request log of below concurrent programs: (when debug mode is enabled)
- Update item statuses with pending statuses (INCIPS)
- Import Items (INCOIN)
This error message can be raised when just disabling a specific item attribute like the Transactable Flag as well.

The issue can be replicated at will per the below steps:
- Go to Master Items or Organization Items form, depending on your item attributes control settings:
Inventory: (N) Items : Master Items
Inventory: (N) Items : Organization Items - Query an active item
- Set Item Status to Inactive (or to any other similar user defined item status) or just disable the Transactable Flag
