Is there a way to improve performance for line Invoice Interface workflow activity?

The line workflow has completed shipping and fulfillment activities, however it is waiting at deferred invoice interface activity.

Running the Workflow Background Process (WFBG) to process the lines that are deferred is taking a long time to process.
