Purpose

Oracle E-Business Suite database sessions are stateful, which constrains use of some of the rolling maintenance features available from Oracle.  This document provides an overview of the platform patching sequence for an E-Business Suite deployment using Exalogic in a virtualized configuration connected to Exadata.  This order of work takes advantage of rolling upgrades where they will not impact EBS user sessions, while organizing the work so there is one outage for all the maintenance that cannot be performed in a rolling manner without affecting EBS sessions.

Scope

This document should help clarify which Exadata and Exalogic maintenance activities can be done while E-Business Suite sessions are active as well as the order in which the maintenance should be done.

Please note that this document is prepared at a very high level and is to be used for initial planning.  Detailed steps need to be determined using the appropriate EBS and Exadata / Exalogic documentation.
