Unable To Select Commodity Option On Smart Form Without Selecting Default Value

Goal
Unable to select Commodity option on Smart form without selecting Default value. Smart forms have been setup to restrict list of values displayed in the non-catalog page and categories have been assigned to different commodities related to different orgs.
However unable to select commodity without selecting the default value for category. It is not desired to default the value but select commodity to restrict values.
Is this possible?
