How to Store Image/PDF Attachments on the File System in 11i and R12 (like Attachment File Directory) (Doc ID 294525.1)

Goal

In Releases 10.7NCA and 11.0.3, the system profile option "Attachment File Directory" dictated the location on the web tier's filesystem where files attached via the FNDATTCH form would be stored.  As of 11i, this profile option was deprecated and all attachments are now stored in the database within the FND_LOBS table.  The compelling reason for this change was data security.  Attachment data stored in FND_LOBS is far less vulnerable to unauthorized viewing/modification than files on the filesystem.  The downside of this is that many customers do still wish to store attachments on the filesystem where it is easier to manage disk space.
