Create a change part job in Depot Repair to change part number on existing instance and keep original serial number, the result creates a new instance instead of modify the existing instance.

STEPS

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1.Queried for depot repair SR > Repair order > Jobs 
2. Find Discrete Jobs> Jobs  > Bill > Material Requirements> Main > Component 
3. Checked install base item XXX search having same serial number assigned to Items XXX and XXX-YY.
