Extra Decimal Places Lost When Creating Batch Using Item Substitution (Doc ID 3038102.1)

Symptoms

When creating a batch from a formula in which an ingredient has more than five decimal places, and the batch is created for a much larger quantity than the formula, the "extra" decimal places from the ingredient are used. However, this does not work if using ingredient substitution.

There are several ways to have more than 5 decimal places for an ingredient quantity. For example, data may be migrated from 11i, or a Forms Personalization may be used on Formulas, or extra decimal places may be used in the Required Qty field. When a large batch is created from such a formula, the extra decimal places are used.

For example, the ingredient qty in a formula is 1.123456789.
If you create a batch for 10000000 times the formula product qty so quantities would be scaled by that factor, the ingredient qty in the batch gets calculated as 11234567.89000, showing that all the decimals that were in the database for the formula quantity were used, it was not rounded or truncated. This is what the customer expects. See note 2667283.1 for further details.

However, if ingredient substitution is used, this does not work, even when the substitution rule specifies that for every 1 unit of the original ingredient 1 unit of the new ingredient should be used. In the above example, the ingredient quantity gets calculated as 11234600.00000 instead of 11234567.89000.

The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
1. Create a formula in which an ingredient quantity has more than 5 decimal places (Formulator > Formulas).
2. Create an Item Substitution List rule for this ingredient (Formulator > Setup > Item Substitution List Setup).
3. Create a batch with a quantity several orders of magnitude larger than the formula (Production Supervisor > Create Document).
