Which API Does One Use to Change the Hire Date of an Employee?

Goal
You need to change the latest start date/hire date of 10,000 employees already in the
database. This functionality is supported throught the Enter and Maintain person screen. However,
the HR_PERSON_API.update_gb_person API does not seem to have the same functionality. Please advise as to which API/procedure to use to achieve this.
