After upgrading to R12, you should complete the following steps to ensure that the upgrade has appropriately stamped the GL periods as migrated. If some periods remain as not upgraded (i.e., gl_period_statuses.migration_status_code=P), you could experience problems later on while running the SLA upgrade or post upgrade patch.
