Flexfield View Generator Fails Due To ORA-00904: invalid identifier (Doc ID 751763.1)

FORM:FNDFFMDC.FMB - Define Descriptive Flexfield Segments
EXECUTABLE:FDFVGN - Flexfield View Generator


A descriptive flexfield has been set up in according to the business requirements. Due to these actions, it is not possible for the application to generate the Descriptive Flexfield View.

An example of the descriptive flexfield named Party Information which has been set up with a single segment under the context Global Data Elements and which fails to generate the descriptive flexfield view.

  1. Check the Freeze Flexfield Definition checkbox
  2. Click on Save
  3. A note is displayed:

    Compiling flexfield definition.
  4. A second note is displayed:

    The flexfield was compiled successfully.
    Submitted request to generate flexfield view HZ_PARTIES_DFV

    The application automatically launched a Flexfield View Generator request which is responsible for creating a Descriptive Flexfield View suitable for reporting purposes.
  5. The Flexfield View Generator request Completed with Error. The request log file shows the following information:

     (ROW_ID, "CONTEXT_VALUE", Comment,  

    Oracle error 904: ORA-00904: : invalid identifier
    ORA-06512: at "SYSTEM.AD_DDL", line 165
    ORA-06512: at line 1 has been detected in afuddl() [3_xdd].
    do_ddl(APPLSYS, AR, 2, $statement$, HZ_PARTIES_DFV): private_do_ddl(APPS, APPLSYS, AR, 2, $statement$, HZ_PARTIES_DFV): do_cd_view(1, APPS, 2, HZ_PARTIES_DFV, $statement$): : do_apps_ddl(APPS, $statement$): : substr($statement$,1,255)='CREATE OR REPLACE VIEW  HZ_PARTIES_DFV 
     (ROW_ID, "CONTEXT_VALUE", Comment,  
     AS SELECT 'View generation has failed. Check log file for error messages' VIEW_HAS_FAILED_CHECK_LOG_FILE 
Note: This issue can occur for ANY descriptive flexfield and for ANY attribute field.

The most relevant piece of information in the above mentioned error are the specific ORACLE errors encountered. Depending on the Oracle E-Business Suite release the following error is seen:

Notice the variation in terms of line number on which the error was encountered. On 11i is occurs on line 160 whereas on Release 12 the failure is encountered on line 165.
