Purpose

Many R11.5.10 and R12 pages are based on the OA Framework (OAF). For running these pages there are a lot of actions performed behind the scenes handling the Application Modules (AM) and JDBC connections.

This note gives an insight on the Application Module pool and JDBC connection pool handling. This information provides a better understanding how things work behind the curtains. Hopefully this makes behavior observed can be explained and is not misinterpreted leading to wrong conclusions while diagnosing the issue.

Scope

This Note is intended for APPS DBA and Support engineers investigating problems in OA Framework pages. The JDBC part may also be useful for DBA supporting E-Business Suite database.

A basic understanding of JServ/OC4J and OA Framework is required to take full advantage of this Note.
