Symptoms

This is a troubleshooting article for a number of problems that arise when making changes to journals not yet posted. When you attempt to change a journal either the particular action you wish to take is grayed out or you get error message. This note attempts to identify the main problems and their causes.

While much may apply to R12 and 11i in general, R12 is more restrictive as there is a deliberate attempt to improve data consistency by preventing subledger journals and reversals from being changed.

 1. How do we change the period of an unposted journal? For example, we need to change the period from MON-NN to an earlier or later period. The journal is stuck in the wrong period.
 2. We have tried updating a journal in GLXJEENT - Enter Journals form but 'More Actions' - 'Change Period' is grayed out.
 3. We have unfrozen the source but the 'More Actions > Change Period' button is still grayed out.
 4. The 'More Actions > Unreserve' button is grayed out, but Funds are marked as reserved.
 5. When updating a journal in GLXJEENT - Enter Journals form, the form gives the error message "FRM-40200 - Field Protected Against Update".
 6. Can we delete a journal that's been posted.
 7. Can we delete an unposted journal that's been approved?
 8. Can we delete an unposted journal with funds reserved?
 9. In R12 can't I modify a reversing journal?
 10. What is the meaning of the batch status?
