ATO and PTO configurations except options of ATO model do not support Decimal Quantities

Symptoms
When entering a decimal "Ordered Quantity" for an ATO/PTO Item or Kit line, the following error occurs.
ERROR
ATO and PTO configurations except options of ATO model do not support decimal quantities.
Please enter an integer quantity for Line 1.1 and Item XXX.
Please enter an integer quantity for Line 1.1 and Item XXX.
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Via the Order Management Responsibility.
2. Navigate: Orders, Returns > Sales Orders.
3. Enter a new sales order
4.. Navigate to the Lines tab
5. Enter item on the "Lines" tab
6. Enter "Ordered Quantity = 0.5"
7. Select "Save"
