Cannot Delete Duplicate Record from Retropay Status Form Due to Errors

Symptoms
When attempting to delete duplicate entries that appear on the RetroPay Status form, one of the following errors occurs:
'You cannot delete this assignment because it contains one or more elements that are system-created.'
'You cannot apply these changes because there is already an unprocessed assignment with this name (XXXX XXXXX / XXXX XXXX). Please query XXXX XXXX / XXXX XXXX and use the existing assignment.'
'You cannot apply these changes because there is already an unprocessed assignment with this name (XXXX XXXXX / XXXX XXXX). Please query XXXX XXXX / XXXX XXXX and use the existing assignment.'
Steps To Reproduce:
The issue can be reproduced at will with the following steps:
- It is found that an assignment has duplicate retro assignment records awaiting processing
- View > Retropay Status
- Query for the assignment with the duplicate record
- Change the status to deferred
- Click the delete icon.
- Error message appears
