How to Configure Kdump in Oracle Linux 6.3+ Oracle VM HVM Guests (Doc ID 1580200.1)

Last updated on NOVEMBER 19, 2022

Applies to:

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure - Version N/A and later
Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 6.3 and later
Oracle VM - Version 2.1 and later
Linux x86-64
Linux x86

Goal

To configure kdump inside an Oracle Linux 6.3+ HVM guest ( domU ) using the Redhat Compatible Kernel ( RHCK ). This configuration is not supported in earlier Oracle Linux Versions or with the UEK kernel.

Due to the addition of the following patch

This indicates that it should work on Oracle Linux 5 as well, but the 5.9 technical notes do not mention this feature anymore, so the support status for Oracle Linux 5 is unclear at this point.
