Adaptive load balancing is often used to achieve redundancy of a network device (NIC) path. In the
ifcfg-bondX file, this is done manually by setting a bonding option of
mode=5. This mode is desirable because it does not require any special configuration of the networking switches.
Attempting to create a virtual NIC using this bonding mode causes the Oracle VM Manager to issue the error:
Bond [bond1 on ovmprodc03] has mode [Adaptive Load Balancing] which is incompatible with the VM role on a tagged VLAN interface.
Manually overriding this will produce ARP packet errors; see Oracle Document Oracle VM Release Notes for 3.2, paragraph 8.4.9 "ARP Packet Checksum Errors" for more details.
