Oracleasm Deletedisk Is Dropping Active Or Open ASMLib/ASM Disks When It Should Not (Doc ID 1917983.1)

Symptoms

On your environment, '/etc/init.d/oracleasm deletedisk' is having success on active ASMLIB/ASM disks (disk being open and used by mounted ASM diskgroups) as follows:

SQL> select group_number, name from v$asm_diskgroup;

GROUP_NUMBER NAME
------------ ------------------------------
  2 DB_VG_4
  3 DB_VG_3
  4 DB_VG_4


3 rows selected.

SQL> select name from v$asm_disk where group_number = '4';

NAME
------------------------------
DBTEST004
DBTEST005
DBTEST006

[root@dbserver ~]# oracleasm querydisk -p DBTEST004
Disk "DBTEST004" is a valid ASM disk
/dev/sdag1: LABEL="DBTEST004" TYPE="oracleasm"
/dev/sdaj1: LABEL="DBTEST004" TYPE="oracleasm"
/dev/mapper/mpath44p1: LABEL="DBTEST004" TYPE="oracleasm"
/dev/mapper/mpath45p1: LABEL="DBTEST004" TYPE="oracleasm"

 

[root@dbserver ~]# /usr/sbin/oracleasm deletedisk DBTEST004
Clearing disk header: done
Dropping disk: done


SQL> alter diskgroup DB_VG_4 dismount;
Diskgroup altered.

SQL> alter diskgroup DB_VG_4 mount;
alter diskgroup DB_VG_4 mount
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-15032: not all alterations performed
ORA-15017: diskgroup "DB_VG_4" cannot be mounted
ORA-15063: ASM discovered an insufficient number of disks for diskgroup
"DB_VG_4"
