'yum update' Failed Due To Dependencies (Doc ID 2204607.1)

Symptoms

Attempting to run "yum update" and errors out with the following error messages: specific version of device-mapper-event is need for upgrade . In this example, the lvm2-libs-2.02.143-7.el6.x86_64 rpm requires a specific version 1.02.117-7.el6 of device-mapper-event.
