[PCA 2.x / OVM] Hotplug vDisk Fails when VM Guest Runs Out of Frames (Doc ID 2543042.1)

Symptoms

Adding a new Virtual Disk (vdisk) to a running VM Guest fails with:

"Device XXXXXXXXX (vbd) could not be connected. Path closed or removed during hotplug add".

The Oracle VM Manager will receive an error similar to this and will be recorded in the AdminServer.log:

"Message: OVMAPI_4010E Attempt to send command: configure_vm to server: ovcacn09r1 failed. OVMAPI_4004E Sync command failed on server: 192.168.140.5. Command: configure_vm, Server error: org.apache.xmlrpc.XmlRpcException: <type 'exceptions.RuntimeError'>:disk:setup_error:Command: ['xm', 'block-attach', '0004fb000006000016a54ce7ab20baa5', 'file:/OVS/Repositories/0004fb00000300007e2c6a2d4c273233/VirtualDisks/0004fb0000120000ac4bea387d3030d5.img', 'xvdah', 'w'] failed (1): stderr: Error: Device 268443904 (vbd) could not be connected. Path closed or removed during hotplug add: backend/vbd/99/268443904 state: 5 stdout: Usage: xm block-attach <Domain> <BackDev> <FrontDev> <Mode> [BackDomain] Create a new virtual block device. [Mon Apr 06 08:12:30 UTC 2020]"
