Oracle Linux : Postfix Status Error 'master dead but pid file exists'

Symptoms
A status check on Postfix service returns the following error:
# service postfix restart
Shutting down postfix: [FAILED]
Starting postfix: [ OK ]
# service postfix status
master dead but pid file exists
The error cannot be removed even after stopping the service and removing master.pid, lockfile & postfix file.
Changes
The issue is observed without making any changes.
