OL: Hot Add or Remove of Disk doesn't Reflect in the OVM VM Running with UEK6 Kernel "task xenwatch:113 blocked for more than 122 seconds." (Doc ID 2817869.1)

Last updated on FEBRUARY 06, 2022

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 7.9 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [5.4.17] and later
Linux x86-64

Symptoms

Removing or adding a physical or virtual disk using Oracle Virtual Machine Manager results in failure.

If a disk is added, it makes it to the host vm server's vm.cfg file for the vm, but the device file (for example, /dev/xvdu) does not get created on the host. rescan-scsi-bus.sh on the vm doesn't help. If the vm is rebooted, the disk device file will show up.

If a disk is deleted, the job fails with below error in the OVM Manager.
