Unmounting a stale NFS mount points on client server fails with error message "Stale file handle".

Unmounting the share with lazy unmount option, clearing system cache, running fuser command to kill any held process doesn't give outcome.

lsof command and ps also reports no process is being held in memory.

Permission and directory changes were made to source file system on NFS server
