Oracle Linux: How to Configure Postfix to Ignore SMTP VRFY / EXPN Requests (Doc ID 3011812.1)

Last updated on APRIL 07, 2024

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 7.9 and later
Linux x86-64
Linux ARM 64-bit

Goal

The default Postfix mail transport agent configuration permits the system to respond to SMTP VRFY (verify) and/or EXPN (expand) commands that verify the validity (existence) and harvesting of email addresses on the server.
As the behaviour may represent a potential security / privacy concern, Oracle recommends disabling this functionality.
This document describes how to configure Postfix to ignore VRFY and/or EXPN requests.
