OLVM: How To Hide Hypervisor Disks from OLVM? (Doc ID 3029681.1)

Last updated on JULY 24, 2024

Applies to:

Linux OS - Version Oracle Linux 8.10 with Unbreakable Enterprise Kernel [5.15.0] and later
Linux x86-64

Goal

By default, when creating a Storage Domain or a Direct-attached Disk in OLVM, all Hypervisor FC/iSCSI Disks are available for selection, including the Hypervisor boot disk if it is booting from SAN.
OLVM still warns that the disk already has data on it and that the operation is destructive, still, it is possible to overwrite the Hypervisor boot disk leading to a server boot failure.

How to hide Hypervisor's Fibre Channel or iSCSI BootFromSan disks from OLVM disk selection?

The procedure is also valid for any other disks, not necessarily boot disks.
