Linux x86-64
Goal
This document explains how to set up an Oracle Linux for the installation of various Oracle software without redundant packages for environments which do not have access to update channels as ULN or RHN. For those environments which are registered with ULN or RHN, see <Note 728346.1>.
Default installations of the Linux operating system contain lots of RPM's which are unnecessary for running Oracle software. Limiting the installed packages to what is strictly necessary for the correct configuration and operation of the Oracle environment reduces the amount of required disk space, leads to a more manageable and robust operating environment.
