E-WL: Error "Failure of server APACHE bridge" when Using Apache Plugin with WebLogic 10.3 and SHA2 SSL Certificate (Doc ID 1380816.1)

Last updated on MARCH 08, 2016

Applies to:

PeopleSoft Enterprise PT PeopleTools - Version 8.51 to 8.53 [Release 8.4]
Information in this document applies to any platform.

Symptoms

After configuring WebLogic 10.3 to use a SHA2 SSL certificate, an error is received when trying to access the PeopleSoft application via an Apache plug-in. The browser shows this error:

Failure of server APACHE bridge:
No backend server available for connection: timeout after 10 seconds or idempotent set to OFF.

The Apache error_log (specified by parameter "Errorlog" within httpd.conf), shows a "WRITE_ERROR_TO_SERVER" message. Example:

[Fri Nov 25 13:46:29 2011] [error] [client 127.0.0.1] ap_proxy: trying GET /psp/ps/ at backend host 'mywebsrv/8443; got exception 'WRITE_ERROR_TO_SERVER [os error=0, line 794 of ../nsapi/URL.cpp]: '

The Apache access_log (specified by parameter Custom_log within httpd.conf) shows a 503 error. Example:

127.0.0.1 - - [25/Nov/2011:13:46:29 -0800] "GET /psp/ps/?cmd=login HTTP/1.1" 503 237

If proxy debug logging is enabled (ie httpd.conf is using "Debug ON" setting), you will see an "SSLWrite" error in the proxy debug log. Example:
